A two-coat plaster system for bare or uneven walls, building them out flat before a smooth skim.
Float and set is a traditional two-coat plaster system used on bare brick or blockwork. A floating coat builds the wall out flat and true, then a setting coat finishes it smooth and ready to decorate.
We apply the floating coat and rule it flat to create a true, even background, then follow with the finishing plaster once it has firmed up. It is the right approach where a single skim would simply follow the bumps of an old wall, and it leaves you with a proper flat surface.
